October 15th, 2012

Within in our daily motorized live a multi-day family trip in the countryside, that starts only by coach and train is a special adventure. The travel times for public transport and the maturity of the children have to be synchronized. The following article describes such a two days weekend hike:

Before departure, the backpacks are packed with food for the next two days, the trail maps and information on restaurants at the route, the personal clothes of the family and of course with the Portemonnaie, mobile phone and solar battery.

The two-days hike starts and ends at the nearest train station. Regional trains run regularly to the surrounding countryside on the weekends.

The trail leads from the Station Geithain into the direction of Rochlitz. To escape the traffic noise, it is advisable to walk on side roads. Immediately after the exit sign of the city a field path turns left towards the village Stollsdorf. In autum a number of pear trees invites you to snack. The path is very suitable and the hilly country always offers great views. The idyllic valley is crossed at the village Stollsdorf. Shortly before the Rochlitzer forest the busy B175 has to be crossed very carefully. Within the forest are several possibilities to reach the highest point, for the first milestone. It is at an elevation of 348 m: an observation tower, a restaurant and a quarry with explanations for porphyry mining in the last century.

The Restaurant Türmerhaus offers good and quality cooking. The service is very friendly and really fast. When the weather is fine on the outdoor sitting the children’s playground can be overlooked.

Well refreshed the trail leads than toward the the river Zwickauer Mulde. If all walkers are on foot (that means e.g. not suitable for prams), the Eulenkluft can be climbed down. Down in the valley the a small stream can be crossed on some trees. After a few additional meters the village Wechselburg is reached.

In Wechselburg, there is a castle garden, a grotto and basilica to visit. Near the river Zwickauer Mulde is the Brückenschänke. The restaurant offers a basic menu. In the summer season the a beer garden invites the hikers under a roof of wild grapevines.

A nice place to stay for families with children can be found in the neighboring village Altzschillen. The Pension Staude offer an apartment for 8 persons, with 4 double rooms. The guest house is located on a former farm. Ducks, chickens and a peacock couples still live here, too. The large terrace around the camp fire rounded the hiking adventure off.

After the very good breakfast and with packed backpacks the walk starts in the morning. A few meters away from the Pension Staude, a field path ist starting always on the edge of the forest along the road to the village Corba. From Corba the path, crossing the forest, leads us to the village Dölitzsch. The goal Narsdorf is can be seen after leaving the forest. At Narsdorf the hike ends at the train station. On the described way, there is no rest stop, but there are some nice places to have a picnic.

Hiking time:
The average maturity for adults should be doubled for the hike with children aged between four and ten years. Depending on the interests of the children of the path will be run faster or slower. However, already a watercourse can tilt too tight time calculation. A varied tour and games during the run to keep all the little hikers happy.
