October 30th, 2012

Hiking, discover and learning: The National Park Administration in the Saxon Switzerland has invested in different paths of a 60 ha wooded area.

To get to Waldhusche, follow the signs to the Hinterhermsdorfer Schleuse (Sluice). The car park at the Buchenparkhalle costs 4 euros per day. With older children, the car could be parked in the village, the walk to the Buchenparkhalle is about an other 15 minutes. From the Buchenparkhalle a path leads to the Hinterhermsdorfer Schleuse on the left. Do not follow this path. The nature Forest Museum is located exactly opposite. At the entrance there are flyers with a map of all routes.

Especially beautiful is the Naturgenussweg. When coming from mountain walk along the local creek, till to a meadow where to the left a path goes into the woods. The trail becomes steep and challenging by passing caves at the Hanschengrund. After this follow the the Waldkundeweg. After a few meters you are back at the Buchenparkhalle.

The trails are well-marked by many signs and very entertaining. You can choose the following ways: Waldabenteuerweg, Historischer Waldnutzungsweg, Naturgenussweg or Waldkundeweg. The trails are well combined. If you are walking in a large group, you can split up and follow different paths. At the end of the trip, each can tell of their experiences.

This natural forest museum is perfect to start into a hiking week, for families with young children or school classes.
