Hiking, camping or excursion, I’m hungry! and … what’s in the backpack?

No sooner the little feet staying on the forest floor, in the middle of a flowery meadow or if the children have the train ticket in hand on some platform than the note on an empty stomach follows, “I’m hungry”, and what’s in the backpack, travel bag or suitcase?

In addition to the article Hiking with children and what to take with?. Here we give advice on alternative supplies for hiking, travel or excursions:

Drinks

  • Water, water, water
  • Sparkling fruit juice
  • Tea

Green and fresh

  • Sliced fruits and vegetables
  • Yoghurt, cottage cheese, cream cheese
  • Bread, biscuits, rice cakes, rolls

Cooked and Baked

  • Rolled pancakes
  • Quarkkäulchen: Saxon dish made from dough containing mashed potatoes, quark cheese, eggs and flour
  • Noodles with dipping sauce
  • Rice pudding with apple sauce
  • Pizza sticks, pizza rolls
  • Fried egg – fried on both sides, the egg yolk does not run out
  • Boiled eggs
  • Cereal and oat biscuits

All these dishes can be prepared the day before the trip and kids often like it more than sandwiches.

Bought and Eaten

  • Cubes of cheese
  • Mini frankfurter
  • Mini salami

A must for any hike is the bag with candies, chocolates and other sweets. Especially on the last kilometers they are essential for motivation and as energy booster.
